Valentine 1950

I wrote this for George in the first year of our marriage.

You will need to know that the 'Drages' mentioned in the poem was a furniture store,and the bed was our pride and joy,costing us 2/6 a week(25p) for some time!

 

Spring shines in early splendour:

And Cupid,bold offender,

Flying blind,

Steals from the young and tender

Peace of mind.

 

Old Time may turn his pages:

Through winter's cruel rages

We shall lie

Snug in our bed from Drages,

You and I.

 

And so we did, through all weathers, for forty happy years!
