Valentine 1950
I wrote this for George in the first year of our marriage.
You will need to know that the 'Drages' mentioned in the poem was a furniture store, and the bed was our pride and joy, costing us 2/6 a week(25p) for some time!
Spring shines in early splendour:
And Cupid,bold offender,
Flying blind,
Steals from the young and tender
Peace of mind.
Old Time may turn his pages:
Through winter's cruel rages
We shall lie
Snug in our bed from Drages,
You and I.
And so we did, through all weathers, for forty happy years!
