The Rebus

The word 'Rebus' comes from the Latin res, a thing. A rebus is a puzzle using pictures, numbers, and letters of the alphabet to make phrases and sentences.

There have been many different kinds of rebus.

One example: Robert Langton received his education at Queen's College, Oxford.

Later in life he gave new windows to the College, and placed in each window the letters TON,drawn out to a great width- i.e. LANG or LONG ton.
